Your responsibility /People and workplace
Everyone points at your documents, including the people who have not read them.
The Employee Handbook, the routine when someone is hurt, the list of who looks after fire safety.
For the HR lead and the office manager. Included at every level, from the smallest upwards.
Some of the areas that usually sit with you
- HR and employment law 3 documents
- Systematic work environment management 5 documents
- Systematic fire protection work 3 documents
11 documents written for your company, each with its statute on it.
The question lands with you because the documents do. You wrote them, or you inherited them from somebody who left.
The problem is rarely a missing document. It is three documents saying different things since someone changed one of them, and you finding out when an employee points out the contradiction.
What you need is not more templates. It is for a change in one document to show up in the others the same day.
Four situations you meet
- A new joiner starts on Monday
- Employment documentation, Employee Handbook, policies to sign
- Someone is hurt or reports a near miss
- Incident routine, risk assessment, allocation of duties
- The company car policy changes
- Every place the old rule is still written
- The person responsible for fire safety leaves
- Fire safety organisation with a new owner
Where is the friction for you?
