The friction looks different depending on what you are responsible for.

Friction is work that has to happen without being anybody’s job. Where is the document, which version applies, who answered this last time. An HR lead and an IT lead in the same company rarely carry the same friction.

The fine is rarely the expensive part.

The expensive part is when a bank, a buyer or a large customer asks and the answer takes three weeks to put together.

Who the question lands with depends on what you own.

Requirements come from five directions. They arrive at different tempos.

  1. Every week Your employees Someone asks what applies, a new joiner starts, two documents say different things.
  2. Every month Your customers and suppliers A questionnaire before a contract, a tender that wants the annex, a supplier term you have to pass on.
  3. Every quarter Your owners, your board and the law The board meeting, the audit, a rule that changes.

They never land with whoever read the law. They land with whoever owns the area.

A sales manager should not be hunting for an annex instead of selling. A CEO should not be writing the Employee Handbook. The work has to be done, but it neither of them grows from doing it. Our job is to take as much of that off you as we can.
